U16's WIN 'B' CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

Congratulations to our U16 Team who defeated Devenish in the U16 B Championship Final. Thanks are extended to the lads for the increased effort for the championship & especially Stephen McGrath & Gerard McElhill who along with myself managed the side.

Our u16s came back from a poor start to beat Devenish St Mary's in Belleek on Thursday 13th September. Following an impressive win over Teemore in the Semi Final, the boys struggled to get a foot hold in the game at the start, conceding 4 straight points, 3 of which were excellent Devenish scores from play. However, Dom Gillen & Adam Kirkpatrick in defence started to tighten up and stemmed the flow of Devenish attacks. Our midfield Gerard Britton & Michael McAleer also found their form and began to penetrate the Devenish backline. But two missed frees meant the deficit remained at 4pts after 15mins of play. Finally the Ederney pressure paid off, two further converted frees got them back into the game. Another point from play from the impressive Conor "Huskey" Walsh and a well worked goal converted by Marty Bogle edged the Ederney team ahead. Devenish however were not to be pushed over, Ederney goalkeeper James McHugh was called upon to stop two power shots, but Devenish levelled the match before the half time whistle scoring two additional points. (HT Devenish 0-06 Ederney 1-03)

The Second half started well balanced as expected with both teams attacking but giving little away in scoreable chances. However a gap opened in the Devenish defence as Michael McAleer steered around a couple of defenders to blast home an excellent goal. A further point edged Ederney into a 4 point lead, but Devenish retaliated with a goal to narrow the game to a point. Devenish were dealt a blow when one of their players was sent off for a second yellow card offence. Ederney capitalised and began to dominate the game. Another Michael McAleer goal and a Barry McAleer free put us 5 points clear. But Devenish kept fighting and came at our defence in search of another goal. The Ederney defence stood strong and when a gap was found the safe goalkeeping of James McHugh denied any goals, while another hit the side netting. A minor infringement seen Michael McAleer & a Devenish player sent off for second yellow cards but as space opened up it was Ederney who benefited. An intercepted ball by sub James Maguire was neatly passed to Niall Maguire in open space, who carried the ball towards goal, then coolly slotted the ball past the Devenish goalkeeper to seal the game.

Final Score St Josephs Ederney 5-06 St Marys Devenish 1-08

Team (13-a-side): James McHugh, Conan Cullen, Adam Kirkpatrick, Nathan Cassidy, Dom Gillen, George Scallon, Michael McAleer, Gerard Britton, Aaron McNabb, Conor Walsh, Barry McAleer, Martin Bogle & Niall Maguire.

Subs: Ryan McMenamin for George Scallon, John Gallogley for Martin Bogle, James Maguire for Nathan Cassidy, Rory Lawn for Aron McNabb and Pascal McKenna for Barry McAleer

Training has been going very well over the last 3 weeks and currently we are getting almost full turnouts.

YOUTH REPORT AUGUST 2007                                                      An Déardaoin 9ú Lúnasa

U10’s

The under 10’s have completed their season with 1 round of GO GAMES with Irvinestown on Sat 7th July, the fixtures with Coa & Enniskillen did not take place. But the two Summer Camps kept all the u10’s busy.

Thanks to Adrian, Kate, Claire Terry & Laurence for their work with this age group.

U12’s

Training continues every sat morning at 11.00am with Laurence, Alice Walsh & Pauline Kelly. Laurence has introduced the new policy (point system) to players to reward commitment (attendance) and it has had an immediate improvement with 22 attending the GO GAMES fixture with Irvinestown, which took the form of a conditioned game rather than the GO GAMES format. Coa are not participating in the GO GAMES series and Laurence is awaiting word back from Enniskillen. Trillick are lined up for a challenge match and the league will commence on Saturday 25th August.

Last Saturday Laurence & the other coaches ran the U12 skills competition. The winners were mark McCauley, Liam Maguire & Mark Kelly . They now go on to the County Final U12 Skills Competition next Monday 13th Aug at 7.30pm in Brookeborough. The winners of that will then go to Ulster Finals in Killyclogher on Saturday 8th September starting at 11am.

It is hoped that each county will have 5 players representing their county (5 football & 5 hurling).
O'Neill's are sponsoring the event and the 2 overall winners will receive a set of U-12 jerseys for their club

U14’s

The U14’s have now completed their season. Training was increased to twice a week with good numbers in attendance. The team carried their good form at the end of the league into the championship when they defeated Newtownbutler (twice!!). The game was forced to a replay, played before the Seniors Intermediate Semi Final with Coa. The lads played outstandingly well and demolished a Newtown team they had lost to in the league. Unfortunately the lads were unable to reach the same form last night as they were defeated by Division 1 side Kinawley. Congratulations to all the players & a special thanks to Kevin McAleer, Stephen McGrath & PJ McGlone

U16’s

Training for the championship has been going for 2 weeks now with very poor attendances. Next session is on Friday at 5.45pm. It is hoped that all players will be present this week now that the U14 season has finished. Championship date is 22nd August.

MINORS

In the championship Quarter Final- the minor’s failed to reach the same standard of play from the Irvinestown game for the match against a very slick Belcoo side. After a tight opening quarter, the scores eluded our minors. Belcoo picked off a couple of scores & a goal towards the end of the 1st half. With confidence lifted Belcoo went on to a comfortable victory. That completed the minor season. Thanks to Raymond McFarland & Martin Monaghan who put in a lot of effort & quality training with the team.

SUMMER CAMPS

The under 14 Development Camp was held between Mon 16th  July – Thur 19th July at Lissan. Kevin Walsh, Aaron McNabb, Christopher McKervey, Conan Cullen, Nathan Cassidy, Ryan McMenamin, Callan McMenamin, Colin Dolan, Niall Aiken & Niall Maguire all attended.

Club Camp 2007 (picture above) was held between 9th & 13th July and yet again was a great success with 76 attending. The weather was fine for most of the week. The usual BBQ was held on the Thursday. Thanks are extended to Kate & Adrian who did most of the organising & thanks to the coaches Ciaran Carey, Adrian McGee, Roisin Maguire & Adrian O’Donnell for a well organised week packed with quality coaching, ice lollies, & burgers!

The County run VHI Cul Camp (pictured below) was held between 30th August – 3rd September. 68 attended. This was very big numbers considering that it did not include year 1 students as was the case in previous years.

This was a much better organised Summer Camp than last year, coaches were on time each morning & the coaching commenced promptly. Feed back has be positive this time around. The coaching was very good standard and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the week. The kits were a good fit and included jersey, socks, shorts, bag & water bottle. Again thanks to Kate & Adrian who did most of the organising for this event & thanks to the coaches & especially the kids who were very well behaved.

HURLING

Fabian Burns has hosted 2 hurling coaching sessions so far this last month & stayed on 2 hours extra after the Thursday of the Cul Camp. He hopes to have an additional 3 sessions over the next month & hopes to have 5 players forwarded to the U12’s Skills competition.

Dromore are hosting a hurling Camp next week, running from Monday to Thursday

COMOGIE

In June two of our girls were picked out to play at half time in one of the hurling All Ireland Semi Finals when at the Ulster Primary Schools Comogie match. The too named were Laura McFarland & Briege Walsh. Unfortunately Laura is on holidays. So the school have nominated Michelle Corry as a replacement. This will take place this Sunday. We would like to wish them the best of luck & hope they enjoy the day.

YOUTH REPORT JULY 2007                                                                                        An Déardaoin 5ú Iúil.

U10’s

Since last month the U10's Played Kinawley in Kinawley and played well but were beaten 14 scores to 11.

The Derrygonnelly tournament was held on 30th June. In their group they played Derrygonnelly which ended in a draw. Then they played Enniskillen and were beaten by last kick of the game. Finally they played Devenish in the last game which we won. Adrian has moved forward the Go Games date with Irvinestown to this Saturday 7th at 11:00am in Irvinestown. It is unlikely that Coa will participate but the week prior to this is our Club Camp. Enniskillen fixture to be confirmed

The County are running a series of GO GAMES fixtures.

Now Sat 7th July: Irvinestown with St. Joseph ’s.

Sat 21st July: St. Joseph ’s with Coa.

Sat 28th July: St. Joseph ’s with Enniskillen

Games will be refereed by the coaches or it may be an opportunity to use young referees!

U12’s

Training commenced on Saturday June 9th under Laurence Maguire and training continues every sat morning at 11.00am. Attendance was poor 2 out of 4 weeks due to other activities.  Laurence is to introduce a new policy (point system) to players this Saturday in order to reward commitment (attendance). Hoping they will agree to it, this will give them 2 weeks to digest it before system actually starts. If attendance improves after club camp I hope to get a couple of challenge games before league starts.

Under 12 season is to commence on Saturday 4th August with 3 weeks of Go Games followed by full league programme with conditioned rules.

GO GAMES fixtures.

Sat 4th Aug: Irvinestown with St. Joseph ’s

U14’s

U16’s

Training for the championship will recommence in July. Championship date is 22nd August.

MINORS

The minor league division 2 finished with Derrygonnelly beating Irvinestown in the final. Our last fixture v Irvinestown was initially postponed due to a death, then unplayed due to injuries and as Derrygonnelly had beaten Maguiresbridge our game was irrelevant.  However in the first round of the Minor championship, the lads put in an outstanding team performance against Irvinestown in Belleek on Wedneday evening 27th June to progress to the quarter finals of the Minor Football Championship. A screamer left footed goal by Francis Carron topped a first half were the Ederney side dominated but failed to capitalise on the scoreboard. Ederney dominated midfield with Chris Snow & Manus Maguire playing well. The second half saw a more spirited display from Irvinestown but with time against them, Peter Cassidy buried a second goal to secure the victory. The next game is against Division 1 finalists Belcoo on Wed 11th July.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The Primary school year ended on yet another high when St Joseph ’s Primary School primary five boys and girls won the Fermanagh Cumann na mBunscoil Primary 5 Division Two Blitz on Tuesday 19th June at St. Michael’s College. Having produced winning displays over Mullanaskea, Garrison and Roslea in the earlier rounds of the competition, St. Joseph ’s met St. Martin ’s P.S., Garrison again in the final and recorded another noteworthy victory for their school and community. The team panel included: Paul Maguire, Conal Mc Aleer, Michael Maguire, Curtis Timlin, Enda Cassidy, Megan Cassidy, Sarah Britton, Conor Mc Gee, Ryan Morris, Jordan Beacom, Roisin Corry, Norah Monaghan and Caoimhe Walsh. Congratulations to them and to their teacher, Mrs.O’Hagan.

The club hosted a Cumann na mBunscoil competition for primary school girls at St. Joseph ’s Park  on Friday 8th June  but despite the excellent weather only three schools ( St. Joseph ’s, St Naile’s, Kinawley and St. Pauls, Irvinestown) participated. Mr. Kirke and Mrs. Siofra Gallagher from St. Joseph ’s P.S. thanked club chairman, Brian Hegarty who, at the very shortest notice, agreed to referee the games. Congratulations to St. Paul ’s who won the competition on score difference after three very competitive games.

Tyrone County Players Davy Harte and John Devine came to Ederney school to collect a cheque for £400 raised by children having a jersey day. The money was donated to " Kenya make a difference" project to build a new school, in which both Davy & John are participating. Congratulations to all the children who raised the money.

U 14’s

Under 14’s have played 1 other challenge and their first league game to date. They suffered a heavy defeat to a very strong Belcoo team. Tonight they played their second against Aughdrumsee which they competed well but were beaten. Unfortunately they have been hit by a few injuries They have been selected to participate in the 1 day Ulster Feile in Cavan on the first weekend of June. Assistance will be required on the day. Club Officials will be asked to participate in the parade.

MINORS

The league commenced on Tuesday 17th April against Kinawley which they won well, followed by another victory over Belnaleck playing impressive football. They came unstuck with a defeat to Newtownbutler after a poor second half performance. They are on a two week break from games as the County minors prepare for Ulster Championship. Ray & Marty would like to point out that no officials travel to away games leaving them problems providing linesman, umpires etc asking young lads to do jobs. Ray also had to line the field one evening before a home before match and had to leave work early to do it.

COUNTY MINORS

Chris Snow, Manus Maguire & Declan McCusker are preparing for the Ulster Championship match against Tyrone on Sunday week.

SCHOOLS & GAMES DEVELOPMENT

See attached report from Games Development officer report for County Coaching & Games Development Sub Committee

YOUTH REPORT  - APRIL 2007

An Déardaoin 5ú Aibreán 2007.

For the first time in a few years we have each age group managed by different personnel. However we still have many qualified coaches who are not involved in coaching of any kind.

U14’s

Under 14’s are managed by Kevin McAleer, PJ McAlone and Stephen McGrath . Coaching commenced on Monday 26th March and had been postponed due to bad weather. They were thrown right into the fire on the following Saturday and played their first competitive game.

“They were unlucky to be defeated by Aughadrumsee in the opening round of the "Feile" in an evenly contested match, lost in the last kick of extra time. Aughadrumsee took an early lead but a goal from Niall Maguire helped St Joseph ’s  back into the match followed by points from Barry Mc Aleer , Aaron Mc Nabb and John Gallogly, giving St Joseph ’s the lead at half time. John Doran scored an early goal in the second half followed by further points from Barry Mc Aleer , Aaron Mc Nabb and Niall Maguire. Aughadrumsee had a good spell which left St Joseph ’s three points behind towards the end of normal time until Mark McCauley scored a goal to level the scores 3-06 to 3-06 at full time. A tense 20 minutes of extra time followed. Nathan Cassidy’s goal gave St Joseph’s an early lead but Aughadrumsee replied with a succession of points. In the final minute Ederney were leading by a point when Aughadrumsee’s Eddie Courtney  scored the match winning goal. An all round impressive performance from Ederney with Ryan Mc Menamin, Conan Cullen and Darragh Mc Alone working hard in defence. Final score 4-09- to 4-08.”

They played a challenge match against a weaker Irvinestown team last night. Kevin started some of the players who didn’t get a run out on Saturday. Kevin has a good problem in the fact he has a large squad of 27 players (all boys) however a large number of these are still under 12. It will be necessary for Kevin to cut the panel for away matches.

Training will continue every Monday & Wednesday or Thursday. Their first league game in Division 2 is on Wednesday 2nd May when they play St Patrick’s Donagh away. They will play 7 games in total in the league.

U16’s

U16’s are managed by Justin Maguire, Gerard McElhill and Stephen McGrath . Coaching commenced on Saturday 3rd march. There is only a squad of 19 players. Most sessions have averaged 12 or so players. To date they have had 8 training sessions & played 1 challenge match against Division 2 team St Patrick’s Donagh. It was a good run out and important to get a game together, however we were well beaten but improved a lot in the second half. It has been difficult to get challenge matches and other challenge matches were called off due to bad weather.

The league commenced on Sunday 25th March, however Brookeborough failed to show with our team already taken the field. The result shall be decided at the next Youth Board Meeting. Our second game against Coa has been refixed by agreement between of both teams and is provisionally fixed for next Thursday (12th April).

Our first league game was last Tuesday when we played Teemore away. The first half was a tight affair 2-03 to 0-06 but we were the stronger in the second half and ran out eventual winners 3-09 to 1-08.

As there are only 6 teams in Division 3, there are only 3 games left to play.

MINORS

Managed by Raymond & Martin Monaghan, the minor team have been training twice a week since Monday 19th February (approx 11 training sessions & 1 challenge match). Like the U16’s there is a small squad numbers wise. Due to a few injuries Raymond & Martin are only working with around 15-16 players.

The only game played to date was against Trillick, who they beat. Our minors played well in the second half when they showed a good level of fitness.

The league commences on Tuesday 17th April against Kinawley and there is a total of 7 games.

COUNTY MINORS

Chris Snow, Manus Maguire & Declan McCusker (Pictured Left to Right) have all made the County Minor Panel. All three showed well in trials and have made the cut for the League Campaign. Under the Management Team led by Kinawley man Cathal Murphy, the County minors got off to a dream start, beating a highly fancied Donegal Team in Kinawley on Saturday 10th March. Both Chris & Manus started the game, Chris at Full Back & Manus along side him at Corner Back. Driving forward, Manus scored a point to help secure two points. The following game was a draw against Antrim in Casement, followed by defeat to Co. Louth. This Saturday they play Tyrone in Tempo.

U10’s

Adrian McGee, along with Lawrence Maguire, Terry Maguire, Kate McGee , Claire Morris & Ursula McFarland are hoping to commence coaching on Saturday 14th April at 11am, with the idea to commence U12’s within a couple of months.

SCHOOLS

St Mary’s College have completed all vocational schools competitions. Conal Sheridan will commence additional after school coaching for Years 1-3 (U-14) and Years 4 & 5 (U-16) will begin after Easter. Additional Year 2 coaching taken by Peter McGinnity will take place in June. There will be County 1st Year & 2nd year blitz also after Easter.

St Michaels College are still competing in both The Dalton & The Brock Cups. Naill Maguire plays on the Dalton & they beat Omagh CBS today to finish top of their group and qualify for the Quarter Finals. That will be played in 3 weeks time.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS

County Coach Declan Maguire attend the school every Wednesday for football coaching. Sean McGee attends every fortnight for hurling/camogie coaching. Eugene & Kate will commence additional after school coaching on the Wednesday after Easter. They still have to confirm the years to take. The Boys Primary School team were beaten by the eventual winners Holy Trinity (Enniskillen) in the Quarter Finals of the School blitz (24 schools participated)

Upcoming events include 7-a-side camogie & 11-a-side football for boys. Exact details to be confirmed.

HURLING

U12 Indoor hurling is still ongoing every Tuesdays at 6pm, however numbers have been low as of late. Joe has requested assistance for Child Protection issues and will commence outdoor hurling soon.

BORD na n’OG

ANNUAL YOUTH REPORT 2006

EVENTS - YOUTH NIGHT

As in previous years, the Club organised several events during the “off season”. At the Annual Dinner Dance in February the Youth Player of the year was selected and presented with the Michael Connelly Memorial Trophy. Enda Ferris edged the award over some fine contenders for his performance for the club & county minors & indeed club & county seniors.

Following the Senior night, and the success of the previous years event, the Youth Night was held in March in St Joseph ’s Parish Hall. Special Guest was former inter county referee, Martin McBrien, who gave a presentation on the role of the referee and how players and spectators can assist the role of the “loneliest” job in the game.

Following Martin, the Senior Team Manger Michael Cassidy, Captain Sean McCaffrey & Ciaran Aiken with the Intermediate Championship Trophy were presented to the crowd. They then presented all the Youth players with a certificate for their commitment throughout the year. Then everyone was treated to great food provided by Kate and her helpers and entertainment from the Youth Groups of the Parish, that included Irish dancing under the guidance of Stephanie McGrath and singing and music under the guidance of Carmel Gillen. The night was complete with a presentation of framed DJ Carey polo shirt, sliothar & hurl from the Kilkenny County Team to Dee Maguire. Yet again it was a great success and a big thankyou to all involved and made the night possible.

CAN’T COOK, WON’T COOK

To raise funds for the Youth expenditure, Kate McGee organised a “Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook” night when celebrity chef Neven Maguire demonstrated his array of culinary skills to all present, followed by Donal “Gordon Ramsey” Gormley & Gerard “Gary Rhodes” Mulligan in a hilarious cooking competition. The night was thoroughly entertaining and the Ederney’s Masterchefs’ delights were surprisingly edible. You could literally eat Mino’s off the floor. Once again thankyou to all who supported the night, those provided food for the tea break and those who helped organise the event especially Kate, Regina Shallow, Anthony & FloGas. A special word of thanks to Neven who agreed to do the night for a much reduced fee.

SCHOOLS

The County Games & Coaching Development committee have now 4 full time paid officers. Two of these coaches now attend our Primary School providing hurling & football coaching. Declan Maguire comes to the school every Wednesday and takes two sessions with P4 & P6 classes. Every other Friday morning Sean McGee provides hurling coaching to P5 & P6 classes. From Easter to the end of term this year again, Eugene McDonagh provided additional after school coaching for the P6 class. Hopefully Eugene will continue to provide this invaluable work next year. At schools level, we have seen our teams compete very well. The good work done by the County Coaches & Eugene at school, the Summer Camp sessions and the coaching at u10 sessions has made an amazing improvement to our young players.

In competitions, under Adrian McGee our P5 boys reached their section final in the blitz held at St Michaels College, the P7 boys under Mr Kirk, reached the semi final and pride of place went to the P6/P7 girls who reached the final, only to be beaten by Garrison. Thanks to Kate & Pauline who looked after them. Another highlight for the kids was a visit from some of the Senior Team on the Friday before the senior championship final. The players & management were given great support from the Primary School. Primary School Teacher, Margret Maguire has taken the FUNdamentals coaching courses this year. This should be a great help to sports in the school. On behalf of the club I would like to thank the School and our School Liaison Officer, Kate McGee who works very hard, making sure that the future of the club are well looked after.

SUMMER CAMPS

Last Year, we had two camps and this year over the months of July & August we hosted three summer camps. From July 5th to 7th was a three day camp with Ryan Keenan & Niall McVeigh for years 9, 10 & 11 (those too old for the other summer camps). This was organised by Dessie and Kate. Priced at £5. While the numbers were low and some of the older lads didn’t participate, it was a great extension from last years two summer camps. The coaching was excellent and the club would like to thank Ryan & Niall and the lads who attended. Hopefully this can be built upon next year.

Between July 10th to 15th was our own club run Summer Camp, organised by Kate, Dessie and Adrian . The coaches were once again Ciaran Carey (Aughdrumsee), Adrian O’Donnell (Errigal Ciaran) and Louise Slevin (Lisnaskea). The camp was a great success with 74 kids attending. The coaching & games, like the weather was great and as usual the kids were treated to a BBQ  and plenty of exercise.

During the festival week July 31st to August 4th the club organised to host the VHI Cul Camp. The coaches were Raymond & Paul Johnston (Newtownbutler), Aine McBrien, Catherine Murphy (Kinawley) and Anita Rasdale (Derrygonnelly). An amazing 88 boys & girls attended making this a great event. All kids received Jerseys and kit bags. The week was a success, however it is felt that it could have run more promptly and that the 1hr lunch break was too long crating problems for supervising 88 kids with no activities. A more concise day would be better. Most importantly all of our camps were enjoyed by the boys and girls.

I would like to thank all the boys and girls for attending and supporting these events, and once again pay particular thanks to Kate who attended every day helped things to run along smoothly doing whatever was required.

YOUTH TEAMS

This year, yet again, we competed in all age groups at club level. Under 10’s, 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and Minors (U-18’s). We catered for over 150 children / youth members both boys and girls and provided activities on 5 out of every 7 days of the year (including girls football & hurling), that’s over 250 coaching sessions or games.

UNDER 10’s

The under 10’s, under the guidance of Adrian McGee, Terry Maguire, Claire Morris, Kate McGee, Ursula McFarland & Lawrence Maguire, commenced Fundamentals Coaching the week after Easter with training sessions held in the field on Saturday mornings and continued until the end of August. They played 4 League games in the Derrygonnelly League, winning all their games against Kinawley, Enniskillen, Tempo & St Patricks Donagh. This qualified them for the final at the Derrygonnelly Blitz  against Enniskillen Gaels in the final in Derrgonnelly. Playing all the football, they outscored there opponents 7 scores to 4 but unfortunately 3 of Enniskillen’s scores where goals. It was disappointing to loose the final but the quality of football all year was excellent. Congratulations to the coaches &  all the children who played their hearts out.

UNDER 12’s

Mentored by Adrian McGee and Kevin McAleer & assisted by Lawrence Maguire, our under 12’s also had an amazing season. While the majority had already been in football with the u10 & u14 squads, they first got together in August, training after the u10’s on a Saturday morning.  The season started off with 3 weeks of GO GAMES with Irvinestown, Coa & Enniskillen. Unfortunately Coa & Enniskillen did not travel to Ederney & the only session was when we travelled to Irvinestown. The league commenced in September when they competed in a very competitive Division 2 with home and away games against Newtownbutler, Roslea, Derrylin & Belnaleck. Two matches were not played Belnaleck home & Roslea away, however the team went unbeaten and reached the final against Roslea. The final was a gripping affair, thoroughly contested and of high quality football. Unfortunately the team were defeated 2-06 to 2-03. An extended thank you to Adrian McGee, Kevin McAleer, Lawrence Maguire and their helpers who have given high quality coaching to this age group. The under 12 season does have some problems with it’s time in the season, with no evening light, coaching midweek is a problem and during this time of year it with clashes with preparations for the 11 plus exam.

GO GAMES

It is likely that the U10 Derrygonnelly league & the U12 league will be played under the GO GAMES rules next year.

UNDER 14’s

Managed by Gerard McElhill and Justin Maguire, this is the most intense age group and with 3 competitions there is a lot of football for this group and requires a lot of commitment from coaches and players alike. Competing in Division 3, the U14 team had a disappointing season in results terms, failing to register a win, a narrow defeat by Coa was the closest to a victory. The team suffer from having few lads at the 13/14 age and are physically small. However their attitude to the games and commitment to training is as good, if not better than any team in the club. They thoroughly enjoy the football and approach every game hungry to get that win. The real success for this team was the vast improvement in skills and team play made through the year, however fitness levels will need to be improved for u16 level in the future. I would like to thank all the boys who played throughout the year and feel they should be a stronger outfit next year competing against players of similar age. I would particularly like to thank Gerard McElhill for his assistance and commitment throughout the year.

UNDER 16’s

Our under 16’s were the first team (including seniors) in action this year commencing on the 12th of March and finishing on the 22nd of September had the longest season of all our youth teams (27 weeks). Unfortunately there was no-one else willing to manage the side and it was left to Justin Maguire to take the team. Competing in Division 3 they started the season with a bomb demolishing Brookeborough and playing outstanding football. While the other games were tighter affairs they reached the league final to play Maguiresbridege the only team to have beaten us in the league. The League final was a similar tale, with Maguiresbridge storming away in the first half, leaving us with too much to do in the second, when we only started to play. After a long break in the season, the team played challenge matches and prepared for the championship again reaching the final against Maguiresbridge. However our lads where well prepared for Maguiresbridge’s physical presence and main scoring threats. Unfortunately we conceded 2 slippery goals in the first half and this was all that separated them at the interval, as we failed to make our mark during the opening 20mins when we dominated. Too many shots fell short into the goalkeeper’s hands. The second half was to see the Maguiresbridge  dominate, but with 10mins to go Michael McAleer scored a fine goal to leave us behind by 3points. Unfortunately we conceded another soft goal. This effectively killed off any chance of a shock victory. I would like to thank Raymond McFarland and Kevin McAleer for their assistance this year. The U16 squad have been very committed this year and most importantly have improved a lot. They are a good bunch of players and have a good attitude. I would like to thank them and Martin Monaghan (Monaghan Contacts) who sponsored a new set of jerseys.

MINORS

Once again, our minors had an exciting year. Playing some excellent football and thrilling all those who watched them with drama until the end. Under
