Sunday afternoon’s   first game of this year’s Fermanagh Herald Division 2 Senior Football  League lived up to all the expectations of a close, keenly fought local derby with neighbouring  Irvinestown at St.Joseph’s Park. The match was decided in the final minutes when the visitors scored the decisive goal in a break away attack to win by two points (3-9 to 2-10)Team and scorers: Kevin Daly, Manus Maguire(0-1), John Irvine, Conor Maguire, Aaron Dennison(0-1), Conor Keown, Damien Cassidy, Chris Snow(0-1), Peter Gormley, Darren Mc Cusker(0-2), Enda Ferris(1-5), Declan Mc Cusker(1-0), Declan Deazley, Paul Mc Cusker and Paul Gallogley.Sub: Dwayne Mc Alynn for Paul Gallogley.  Although they were defeated the team and management will hope to carry the spirit and commitment of this performance into the next encounter which takes place in Roslea on Friday evening at 7.30pm. Players are asked to assemble in Ederney at 5.30 on Friday.

On Saturday evening the Erne Cup team recorded another victory, defeating Belnaleck at St. Joseph’s Park on a score line of 1-12 to 1-6. Leading by 1-6 to 0-3 at half time the home team continued to dominate in the second half and eventually led by 1-12 to 0-3. This team travel to Kinawley on Saturday evening to play the local Brian Borus.

The minors lost their unbeaten status to Derrygonnelly last week so they will be keen to return to winning ways against Derrylin O’Connell’s on Wednesday evening in St. Joseph’s Park.

Apologies are extended to the u16 girls for the absence of information in this column about their league endeavours over the past five weeks. On Thursday evening they travel to Garrison to play Devenish in the final game in Section 2 of the U16 League. Meanwhile the u14 girls are preparing for the commencement of their competitive action on May 19th.

The adult footballers and co-ordinator, Damien Cassidy were complimented at Thursday’s club executive committee meeting on the success of their recent club fund raising initiative.

Paul Gallogley has been appointed to process and monitor all insurance claims arising from playing injuries.

Ryan Mc Menamin and Nathan Cassidy are current members of the Fermanagh U15 Development Squad.

Congratulations to Mark Kelly who won the Fermanagh U12's skills competition. The top 3 players from each club  had to display their prowess in the Pick up, Target Poles and Accuracy Square for kicking, Hand Passing, Punt Kick and Free Taking. After an hour of enjoyable competition the players had completed all the skills and the results were as follows: 1st Mark Kelly, St. Joseph’s, 2nd Johnny Courtney, Newtownbutler, 3rd Garvan Jones, Derrygonnelly, Joint 4th, Gary McKenna, Derrygonnelly, Ryan Murphy, Kinawley and James Allen, Kinawley. These players will now travel to Killyclogher, Co. Tyrone, at 11.00am on Saturday 8th September, to compete against representatives from the other Ulster counties in the O’Neill’s sponsored Ulster Finals. The winner will bring home a set of O’Neill’s jerseys for his club’s U12 team!

  Ladies Youth Football

The U14 Girls made Club History when they brought home the first ever Ladies Football Title wining the Division Two league Final with an emphatic result over Devenish

Congratulations to all the girls & Ursula McFarland and in particular Dearbhaile McHugh for their hard work over the past 3 years and especially on their first title.

The Under16 girls  followed in their younger counterparts footsteps reaching their league final against Lisnaskea Emmetts.
